Trend Report: Highlights of Salone Del Mobile 2019
Proof Contract, 29 April 2019
Alas, the highly anticipated Milan Design Week 2019 has come to an end. Congregated with new product launches, networking parties and exclusive meet-the-designer sessions, Salone Del Mobile di Milano 2019 was a fantastic treat for all dealers and designers. Like previous years, the annual prestigious fair hosted many famous international furniture brands such as Poltrona Frau, Knoll, Poliform and B&B Italia. After 3 days of enriching visits to all the brands at the fair, here are some notable celebratory mentions from some brands in Salone Del Mobile di Milano 2019.
In celebration of the 100th year anniversary, Poltrona Frau relaunched the 1919 armchair – now 2019 armchair – by reinventing the seat size and features. Keeping the classic sophisticated Frau design, the seat has been resized to be larger and lower for added comfort. The 100th anniversary edition of the 1919 armchair is also re-imagined for modern living. Originally used for ashtrays, the connecting table is remodeled for the use of laptops instead. Reaching its peak of innovative art yet, the 1919 armchair from Poltrona Frau is definitely one of the trip’s highlights.
Enchanting and compelling visitors at first glance, Brokis’ presentation at Eurolace 2019 features a synthesis of select design, outstanding quality and the exceptional skill of Bohemian master glass blowers. The Czech premium lighting brand exhibited an enduring lighting collection, which since their launch have generated extraordinary admiration and interest around the world.
“The concept for the BROKIS stand at Euroluce is based on the process of manufacturing blown-glass lights, during which individual layers of glass are gradually added to the piece. Each layer has its own unique characteristics, be it in terms of colouration or transparency,” Lucie Koldova
Brokis presented its collections in an expansive 200 metres square stand with a singular conception of the lightning installation and the space itself called BROKIS IN A NEW LIGHT. Some noteworthy new products are the AWA collection by Japanese designer Fumie Shibata and the innovative debut by Boris Klimek called GEOMETRIC that features Brokisglass. Other significant collections on display included IVY and PURO CONTOUR by Lucie Koldova.
Mesmerizing Vibrancy Of Colours. This year Paola Lenti further establishes their flair in sophisticated loud tones in contemporary outdoor and indoor furniture. Paola Lenti’s showcase took place in the industrial spaces of Fabbrica Orobia 15, just around the corner of famous Fondazione Prada. Paola Lenti’s showcase displays a sequence of architecture in the form of theatre drapes. This spatial arrangement strives to narrate intuitions, innovations and products of yesterday and today while in the continuous dialogue between colour, matter and form. Beyond the exciting aesthetics, this brand reels you in through its history, quality and brand personality that comes with it.
More architecture than furniture, more statement than server – this belief stays relevant to the brand’s latest reveal during Design Week 2019. Paying homage to modernity living during Bauhaus school’s 100th anniversary, amongst other things Walter Knoll celebrates the release of EOOS designed new sideboard, The Farns.
The Farns is inspired by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s “Farnsworth House”, a prototype fully glass building. Definitely a more statement than server piece, the Farns sideboard resembles the timeless yet modern architecture landmark. The Farns plays with light and shade, with shape and geometry, wood and glass, and just like the Farnsworth House, it is the center of attention – like a bungalow in a park. Opens 180 degrees, the sideboard creates a range of faces for innumerable lighting effects. The mirrored panels creates a seamless depth on the inside. Besides being able to change up the look every once in a while, the features of The Farns sideboard allow the end user to maximise the usability of this piece for the individual need. A resolute and straightforward piece, the sideboard is quoted as ‘a true tribute to the Bauhaus’.
